In 1999, after traveling the world collecting china and antiques, Barbara Rice opened Goldsboro, North Carolina’s first fine-dining tea room, The Royal Tea Room. A new take on the Eastern NC dining experience, The Royal Tea Room was the go-to restaurant for Bridal luncheons, annual RTR Christmas parties, etiquette classes, evening dinner and daily lunch. After closing doors in 2009, Barbara Rice continued to refine her cooking style through catered events, private parties, and in her role as Director of Dining Services for a large corporation.
After a lifetime dedicated to creating beautiful events and creating dazzling food, Barbara “B. Sweeney” Rice is back with a new dining experience. “I wanted a restaurant where people could not just have an excellent, satisfying meal, but where they could have a real experience,” says B. More than just fine china and exquisite teas, B. Sweeney’s is a fresh and accessible take on some of B’s favorite international foods and tea room fare. “Enjoy a pot of tea and a delicious scone alongside dishes like Cuban Marinated Roast Pork on toasted fresh bread, Quiche, or even Shepherd’s Pie!”
